Elementary specials and middle school elective courses provide students with a well-rounded, rich, and varied learning experience. Intended to allow students exposure to different
This daily 25 min. Class provides instruction in keyboarding, digital citizenship, coding, thinking maps, and engineering concepts.
Students receive 80 minutes of art instruction every three weeks in which they create and learn the various types and functions of visual art.
Music instruction is provided every other day for 30 min. Students learn concepts of rhythm, harmony, tone, movement, and instrumentation.
Physical Education is provided every other day for 30 min. Students learn developmentally appropriate concepts and skills relating to physical fitness as well as healthy lifestyle habits for exercise, rest, and nutrition.
Exploratory Block---Daily 55 min. period
*Technology (9 wks.)
This course will be a continuation to the previous elementary Technology Exploration class. The students will use Google applications to help support and enhance study skills and note taking along with digital citizenship, keyboarding and computer science, robotics and engineering.
*World Language (9 wks.)
This course provides an introduction to a world language and culture in a fun, interactive learning environment.
*Physical Education (9 wks.)
Students learn skills needed for success in numerous physical activities, to assess and improve their own physical fitness, and concepts and strategies that help them improve health and performance.
*Art (9 wks.)
Students will apply skills and knowledge to create art. Students will recognize, analyze, and describe connections between the arts and other disciplines.
***Innovative Exploratory Block Option
Students may personalize their exploratory block through an Independent Study. Instead of one of the 9-week options in the exploratory block, students will select a compelling question to explore, research, and publicly present their findings. A mentor teacher will check in with students to provide guidance and assess progress.
Band/Orchestra - Full Year Introductory Class -- daily 55 min. Instruction. Students will participate in concerts and activities with West MS band.
World Language - Full Year--daily 55 min. online language course. Students may choose from American Sign Language (ASL), or Spanish IA, French IA, Chinese IA.
Leadership - Full Year--daily 55 min. Online course. Students will plan, coordinate, and participate in a service learning project.
